Admissions

Admissions begin in the second or third week of May and are advertised in the newspapers. Complete information will be available on the university website www.iisuniv.ac.in

Admission forms for UG and PG courses will be made available from the college office from the 28th of May 2014.

Is there any entrance examination for admission to the college?

Admissions are done on the basis of merit i.e. marks secured in the 10 + 2 or equivalent examination for admissions to U.G. programmes & for MBA(Trimester based) programme , M.Phil. and Ph.D. programme entrance tests will be conducted.

Tentatively, on Friday, 20th June 2014 for UG and Monday, 23rd June,2014 for PG. The list of the students selected for admission is put up on the university Notice board and the university website by mid of June.

A second list is also declared only if any vacancies remain after the first list

Fee has to be paid in two installments. First installment is paid as a demand draft in favor of “The IIS University Jaipur” and the other installments as post dated (advance) cheques. Outstation cheques are not accepted. No fees will be accepted unless the advance cheques are submitted.

Students can avail the State Govt. Scholarships under different schemes. The students can also avail the scholarship sponsored by the UGC and fee concessions may be allowed on need-cum-merit basis. Eligibility norms as per the University specifications have to be fulfilled and supported by proof of being an NRI. Admission is given on the basis of merit. Fee structure for NRI candidates is different from the resident students.

Yes, Migration Certificate, in original, is necessary for all. Students migrating from other universities and applying for PG programmes are also required to submit Migration Certificate, in original.

Career Oriented and Skill Development Courses

These courses have been designed with a view to hone the latent talents of the students. These courses aim at preparing the student in globally competitive ways so that they turn out to be ‘World Ready Women’. These courses are Vocational in nature and a student is free to choose one from a variety of courses that suit her aptitude and taste. These courses can be pursued along with graduation as well as with any other course of study. They provide the student with the skills that would support their career building. The emphasis is more on practical training and skill enhancement.
These courses provide an opportunity to pursue one additional course alongside the degree course. So at the end of graduation the student possesses an additional qualification besides the degree.

These courses are based on Progressive Approach. A full-length course is for three years. The first year is the Certificate Course, the second year Diploma and the third year is Advanced Diploma.

The student is free to continue or drop the course after the Certificate/Diploma.

Yes, these courses are open to all candidates fulfilling the eligibility criteria.

Yes, it is compulsory for a first year student at U.G. level to join any one Certificate course offered by the college. For the students of II yr, IIIyr & PG Programmes these courses are optional.

These courses are career oriented and equip the students with skills that help them the shaping their careers. The students also join them to hone their latent talents, their hobbies and tastes. These courses are highly advantageous as, under one roof, they provide the students with an additional qualification along with their graduation. They are not pressure bearing, as there is more of practical content. In order to ensure that no extra pressure is created on the student, these courses are based on annual scheme of examination and their exams does not coincide with the degree programme.

No, the fee for the Career Oriented and Skill Development courses is not included in the fee for the regular degree courses, and has to be paid separately. It varies as per the nature of the course. Fee structure of these courses is available on the website.

The classes for most of these courses are held from 9.30 –10.30 am. Depending on the demand of the course, the timings may be increased in future.

Semester Scheme

It is a globally recommended and accepted pattern wherein the entire programme is divided into short spans (usually four to five months) of teaching followed by evaluation. This system is usually practiced in technical and higher levels of education for quality enhancement. In the semester scheme more content is covered in the curriculum and the burden on the student is less.

There will be two semesters

• The Autumn Semester-beginning July and ending with Semester End Examinations in November-Dec
• The Spring Semester- beginning December and ending with Semester End Examinations in April-May

This pattern is applicable to all U.G. and P.G. programmes, Career Oriented and Skill Development courses (COSD) Annual Scheme of Examination.

Evaluation

In Semester Pattern of study Continuous Assessment of the students is recommended. This is accomplished through a combination of-
Evaluation of students is based on :

• Continuous Internal Assessment (30% of the total marks) and
• Semester End- Examination (70% of the total marks)

Assessment is done on credit-cum-percentage basis. This means that in order to pass a paper a candidate is required to obtain at least 36%/40%/50% (as per the Course) in continuous assessment and semester-end examination individually. When the candidate fulfils these requirements, she is awarded the credits assigned to the paper. In order to be eligible for the award of a Degree, the student must clear all the papers of the subjects she opts forn and earn the credits assigned to the programme. For instance, a student studying for a Degree in the Bachelor of Arts (BA) would be conferred the same only when she has passed all the subjects/papers she has opted for, qualifies in all the foundation courses, and earns the minimum required credits assigned to various co-curricular activities.

The Internal Assessment shall be a continuous process and shall comprise 30% of the total marks assigned to each paper. The distribution of marks for theory papers shall be as per the following scheme:

1. Written Tests
2. Home Assignments / Quiz
3. Student Teacher Interaction
4. Attendance

Scheme of C.A at UG & PG level: Practicals/Projects for various courses have different schemes of evaluation suited to the nature of the subject and the job assigned.

Assessment is confined to the Semester-End Examination carries 70% weightage. The subjects with practical component have practical examinations. Projects are assessed through viva-voce under the supervision of external examiners. The theory papers are set by experts from outside. Evaluation of answer books is done by one external and one internal examiner and average of the two is taken as final awards. This help in ensuring proper evaluation of each answer book.

In continuous assessment teaching and evaluation go side by side. A student is evaluated through tests, home assignments and other methods when her memory are fresh and thus she has opportunity to show best performance. Objectivity, Transparency and Impartiality are the watchwords of internal evaluation. This is accomplished through increasing objective content of the test question papers and maintaining transparency in the evaluation.

A Credit is a unit of measurement for the quantum of work required of a student in a particular course, e.g., 2 Credits, 3 Credits, etc. The Credits are based on the number of teaching hours per week.

Credit System is recommended because it is a novel method of evaluation and is globally recognized. By way of earned credits, the Credit Weighted Average (CWA) is worked out which provides us an index of the students performance like the percentage of marks obtained by her. At the end of each semester, Semester Credit Weighted Average (SCWA) is awarded, whereas on the completion of the course ‘Cumulated Credit Weightage Average’ (CCWA) is awarded. The candidate is awarded a class division on the basis of CCWA.

It is more scientific and is a widely accepted system.

If the student secures a minimum of 36% of the marks in the Continuous Assessment in a paper and a minimum of 36% of the marks allotted to the Semester End Examination, she is assumed to have passed that paper and earns the Credits assigned to that paper.

Promotion from an odd semester to even semester is automatic i.e. without any condition of credits earned in the odd semester. Thus all the students who have taken the examination of first semester are promoted to the second semester. However, for promotion to the next higher odd semester, her performance in the last two semesters is taken into account i.e. for promotion to III semester her performance in the I and II semester will be considered.

At U.G. level pass courses, where total credits assigned to the three electives are 8 x 3 = 24, in a semester, i.e. 48 in two semesters, a candidate must have earned at least 20 credits for being eligible to be promoted to the next higher odd semester. Similarly in Honours courses where total credits of Major and Subsidiary for the two semesters are 48, a candidate must obtain at least 20 credits for promotion to the next higher semester. Credits earned in Foundation courses and co-curricular activities shall not be counted for the purpose of promotion.

In P.G. level and professional courses, the minimum credits required for promotion to the next higher odd semester shall be 50% of the total credits assigned to different papers, practicals, project etc., prescribed in the last two semesters taken together. If the number to total credits assigned happens to be an odd number, it will be added by one and than 50% of it will provide the minimum credits required to be earned for promotion.

The Marksheet mentions both, the Credits as well as the marks obtained by the student. The Credit Weighted Average (CWA) as well as the percentage of marks will also be worked out and included in Mark-sheet.

The CWA is better because it, inherently, carries the impact of credits assigned to different papers.

Yes, this is widely accepted. Besides the CWA, the Mark-sheet would find a mention of the percentage of marks as well. Thus, there will be no difficulty as regards admission.

Yes, Division is awarded and mentioned in the Consolidated Marksheet as well as the Degree.

The Division is mentioned only in the Consolidated Mark-sheet issued on the completion of the course, after the candidate has qualified in all the Foundation, Core, specialized and any other subjects/ papers and practicals/project prescribed for the course and has also fulfilled necessary conditions for participation in NSS/ NCC/Games and Sports/Cultural Activities and earned the required minimum Credits.

The mark-sheet issued at the end of a semester will contain marks obtained in different papers and the credits earned in the papers in which the candidate has passed. If a candidate has passed all the papers prescribed in a semester, the marksheet will also bear percentage of marks obtained by the candidate and the ‘Semester Credit Weighted Average’ (SCWA).

The Consolidated Mark-sheet will include the Percentage of aggregate marks obtained and a credit based figure Cumulative Credit Weighted Average (CCWA). The CCWA is the cumulative Average of all the credits earned through different semesters of the course. The Semester Credit Weighted Average (SCWA) or the cumulative credit weighted Average (CCWA) is calculated through the formula prescribed for calculating Credit Weighted Average (CWA) in the following manner:

CWA= S Credits earned x marks obtained in each paper / practical Total Credits

Total marks of Continuous Assessment (CA) and Semester- End Examination shall be considered for working out CWA. The criteria for calculating Division is as follows:
36% or above but less than 48% Pass
48% or above but less than 60% II Division
60% or above but less than 75% I Division 75% and above I Division with Credit

The mark-sheet bearing a hallmark and other security features will be awarded by the University under the seal and signatures of the Rector and the Controller of Examinations.

The students admitted to the first semester of any programme from July 2011 onwards will be awarded degree in the name of THE IIS UNIVERSITY. The degree to the successful candidates admitted to ICG (Autonomous) are awarded by the University of Rajasthan on the recommendation of the college.

As of now revaluation is not proposed. The evaluation system is being designed in a manner that reduces the possibility of errors to the satisfaction of the students. This shall be ensured by way of the following methods:
Totaling of marks will be done for each award list so as to reduce the possibility of erroneous calculation.

• The answer booklets of Continuous Assessment will be shown to the students.
• The answer books of the Semester-End Examination will be doubly evaluated. Firstly by some external examiner and then by an internal faculty appointed by the Principal. The average of the two awards will be taken as the marks obtained by the candidate. This would automatically eliminate the possibility of under marking.
• The answer books shall be coded and fictitious roll numbers shall be put up before sending the answer books for evaluation so as to eliminate any chances of partiality.

Curriculum

The pattern would be semester based or Trimester Based in case of MBA(dual Specialization Programme)
U.G.- 6 Semesters except for BVA which is of 8 Semesters
P.G.- 4 Semesters

1. The student applying for UG Programmes can choose between Honours and Pass Course.
2. She will be required to study the Foundation Courses, pursue any one of the Career Oriented and Skill Development course, take up any three Electives out of the subject combinations permitted in the faculty in case of Pass Course,
3. take up any one Major and one Subsidiary in case of Honours course
4. Opt for any one of the following activities: NSS/NCC/Cultural Activities/Sports.

A student pursuing UG Programme is required to qualify around 10 foundation courses constituting basic knowledge of different subjects which a student graduating from THE IIS UNIVERSITY is supposed to know so as to reflect in her personality and behavior.

PG Course is a 4-semester programme. Depending upon the nature of the subject, a PG Course may have 16-24 papers over4 semesters.

Extra-curricular component covers wide range of activities including Cultural activities, Games and Sports, NCC, NSS and other extension activities.

Biometric Attendance Control System

An Innovative approach

In order to ensure the safety of your child/ward and to monitor the arrival and departure time of the students, the college has introduced a ‘Biometric Attendance Control System’ for which six machines have been installed at different places on campus. This automated system is an unparallel means of ensuring the regularity and punctuality of students in the college.

The system uses finger impression on the scanner and Identity Card of the students for registering their arrivals in the morning at 8.00 a.m. (morning batch) and 9.30 a.m. (noon batch) and departure for the day at 1.00 p.m. (morning batch) and 3.15 p.m. (noon batch). Accordingly, SMS will go to the parent’s mobile phone. In case a candidate does not register entry/exit attendance, a non -compliance SMS will go to the parent automatically after the grace period which is as follows: For Morning Batch : 8.30 a.m.
For Noon Batch : 11.00 a.m.

No. Books for essential reading and reference books are prescribed in the syllabi of different courses. Teachers also suggest relevant books in their classes.

No, the semester system eases the burden while covering more content. The student is required to study and prepare smaller bits of curriculum for the Continuous Assessment and Semester End Examination rather than an extensive curriculum spread over the year for the annual examination. The semester courses are comprehensive and better planned. They are broad base, cover essential topics in more systematic way and help in importing deeper and applied knowledge of the subject as compared to the annual system.

Yes, 75% attendance is compulsory in order to be permitted to take the Semester End Exams.

Yes, the tests have to be taken in right earnest as they form an important component of Continuous Assessment.

There are some norms designed in student’s interests, which they are expected to adhere to in the college. Some of them are:

1. Mobile phones are strictly not allowed. If a phone is caught on the person of the student, it will be confiscated and the bearer will be panelized with a heavy fine.
2. Ragging is strictly prohibited as per Supreme Court orders.
3. It is compulsory to wear Student Identity-Cards on campus. All facilities like bus, library etc. can be availed only on production of Identity card.
4. Early departures are allowed strictly through Gate-pass system signed by the designated authorities.
5. Students are required to be decently dressed.
