NSS is a scheme of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports which is aims at the personality development of students. The National Service Scheme was launched in 1969 to give a new dimension to the higher education system and to guide students towards community service while they are still studying in an educational institute. NSS is a reflection of Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals which inspire the youth to participate in social upliftment and in tasks of national development. The scheme extends to all states & Universities in the country. “NOT ME BUT YOU “ is the motto of NSS.

Youth Cultural exchange with Egypt and Azerbaijan
23rd March 2013
A Youth Delegation consisting of 7 members from Egypt and 20 members from Azerbaijan visited the IIS University for a youth and cultural exchange programme on 23rd March 2013. The NSS Units of the University hosted this programme on behalf of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. The delegation was welcomed with floral garlands in the traditional Indian manner. The programme began with Invocation to Goddess Saraswati followed by Lamp lighting to inaugurate the programme by by Shri Manohar Kant, Principal Secretary, Higher Education, Government of Rajasthan, Ms Renu Sarin, Deputy Secretary, International Cell, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, along with Miss Sally, the Team leader of Egypt, Mr. Huseynov Elshan, the Team leader from Azerbaijan and Dr. Ashok Gupta, Vice Chancellor, The IIS University.
Dr. Ashok Gupta welcomed the delegates to the IIS University. This was followed by NSS (National Service Scheme) and NYKS (Nehru Yuva Kendra Sansthan) Youth work presentations by Dr. Sharad Rathore, NSS Programme Officer -The IIS University. Thereafter Egyptian and Azerbaijan team made presentations in which they highlighted the geographical features, culture and youth policies of their respective countries.
After this NSS students of the IIS University showcased Rajasthani culture through Rajasthani folk dance, Kalbelia dance and a group song. The Egyptian and Azerbaijan team members won the hearts of all through their country specific cultural presentation.
Shri Manohar Kant presented mementoes to the team leaders as well as to Ms Renu Sarin and Mr Deepak Kumar, Head, NSS Regional Centre, Patna on behalf of the State Government. Shri Manohar Kant and Dr Ashok Gupta presented individual tokens to all team members on behalf of The IIS University. In his Key Note address Shri Kant emphasized the significance of such delegation visits towards fostering good relations and fraternity between the different countries and thus establish world peace. The programme ended with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Jyoti Gaur, NSS Programme Officer Unit II of The IIS University followed by Indian National Anthem. All the participants and guests joined in the refreshment organized by the University and informally interacted with the student youth of the university.
NSS Orientation

NSS Orientation Day came soon after the college started. NSS Programme Officer Prof. Sharad Rathore’s welcome and introduction of the concepts of NSS – NOT ME BUT YOU! She described the symbol of NSS as cycle of life, inspiring the youth to be active all the time, contributing to the task of nation development. She also talked about the benefits of credits that the students can get by working in NSS. She stressed on the voluntary paradigm of NSS without which it becomes redundant.
Students were asked to fill Registration forms for NSS and the session was concluded after taking attendance.
Enrolment for Tree Plantation
July 27, 2012, 9.30-10.30 a.m.
NSS Programme Coordinator Prof Sharad Rathore, NSS Volunteers, the IIS gardener Mr. Parasher and local representative Mr. Hanuman Singhji went to see parks around the ICG where trees could be planted. They spoke to local people who would be taking care of trees. Three parks were short listed where local participation was more.
Tree Plantation
July 28, 2012, 9.30-11.30 a.m.
NSS volunteers were divided in two groups and boarded two buses to go the parks selected for tree plantation. Jagriti NGO members accompanied the group from the University campus with trees, name plates, and equipment for planting. One group got down at the first park Kamala Bal Vidyalaya, Sector 117, near Mayur bakery, Thadi market. They connected with the people living around the park, who participated enthusiastically. The next group did the tree plantation with the willing members living around Bhairav Mandir Park, in the same Sector. 60 trees were planted in two parks. The third park was not taken with time exceeding during plantation in two parks.
Rakhi Making Competition

Rakhi Making competition is a regular annual activity of NSS before Rakhi to foster creativity and sisterhood. This year though the participants were few as it coincided with the day the tree plantation was taking place. Dr Suveen Agrawal, HOD Mathematics, Prof Radha Kashyap, HOD Textile and Clothing, and Dr Rachna Nahta, from Fine Arts judged the rakhis for presentation, design and making and selected the Rakhis for prizes.

Guest lecture on -Oral Health is Overall Health

Dr. Thakkar , a dentist and Orthodontist from the Jaipur Dental Hospital addressed the students on the Oral health and hygiene of Teeth. He threw light on the different dental problems and the diseases and the causes as well as the reasons for these diseases. He said that the best attire of women is the charisma and the best jewelry is smile and the best heel is confidence. He said that all of this is possible only when one has a good set of teeth. He tried to clear the general myths and beliefs of the people regarding dental care. He emphasized the necessity of daily dental care which comprised of the use of a fluoride tooth paste and soft tooth brush twice daily in the right way, the use of a mouth wash, tongue cleaner and dental floss on a regular basis; to avoid sticky and junk foods and tobacco; visit the Dentist every six month for a regular dental check up. Problems of mouth can affect the rest of the body leading to heart disease, respiratory problems, premature birth and diabetes. This programme on the occasion of ‘Oral hygiene day’ to understand the intimate connection between oral health and overall health was made possible because of Himalaya Drug Company, which emphasizes on quality and researched herbal products like the various qualities of ‘neem’ for dental care and shared a few recent Himalaya products.
Demonstration of Bike Stunting by Steel Silencers Ash-in-Deep
4th August 2012, Saturday 9.30-10.30 a.m.
7 bikers and 2 bicycle riders took part in the breath taking spectacular performance of Bike Stunting in which, these bikers demonstrated marvelous stunts like driving on one wheel. The spectators watched spellbound the brave talents of Jaipur, who have qualified for a TV reality show ‘India’s Got Talent’.
Mosaic Making Workshop for NSS Volunteers

Both theses resource persons taught the skill of Mosaic designing using pieces of ceramic tiles and a motif to work upon. This activity was organized for upgrading the skills of students so that they can act as peer educators and trainers for adolescents and women in the basti to empower them. NSS group leader Twinkle Jain proposed a vote of thanks on behalf of the NSS volunteers.
Film Screening and Appreciation of Udaan by NSS and Population Education Club of the IIS University

Udaan - A film on the aspirations and dreams of the youth and ability to pursue it against odds, was screened for the NSS volunteers, under the joint endeavour of NSS and Population Education Club of the IIS University. This film is about a boy who refuses to be bogged down to the imposed dream of his father and chooses to follow his dream of becoming a writer. This film was appreciated by all volunteers and was followed by critical appreciation by Dr Deepak Sachdeva, Head, Mass Communication Department and a panel consisting of Ms Ruchi Goswami and Ms Aastha Suxena. The struggles, conflicts and dilemma he faces in keeping his dream alive was an inspiration for all the volunteers.

Independence Day Celebration
15th August 2012, 8:00-10:30 am
After Flag hoisting by Vice Chancellor Dr. Ashok Gupta, the IIS School students enacted a drama showing important events of the freedom struggle like the Civil Disobedience Movement, Salt Satyagrah and Quit India Movement led by Gandhiji and its mass appeal. This was followed by a skit-a Nukkad Natak on “Justice delayed is Justice denied”. The NSS Volunteers led by Nandita Gupta, Pawan Rathore, Vaidehi Ranawat, Megha Chaudhary and Hiteshi Bhatia and many more students-raised the concern of delayed Justice in cases like Jessica Lal Murder, Mumbai Terrorism etc and showcased its effects on the security of life of the people of the country through enactment of roles. This was appreciated by all.
NSS Volunteers also put up group song ‘Satyamev Jayate’ sung enthusiastically matching the spirit of the day with patriotism and love for motherland. The V.C, Dr. Ashok Gupta Congratulated all the people on the occasion of Independence Day and encouraged and guided with his powerful words of wisdom.
Art of Living

Art of Living team came to speak about how youth can increase their capacities. Guest speakers on this occasion were Jayesh Garg and Siddharth Jain. They outlined the philosophy of Art of Living and the significance of a pleasant loving personality essential for success in life. They focused on ‘Youth Empowerment Seminar +’ aimed at providing valuable inputs to enrich young minds and train them to remain in present and thus enable them to cope with issues that otherwise bog them down.
The young leaders made an excellent presentation of experiencing serenity of mind and its affect through spiritual upliftment.
Orientation to Community Work
Saturday 18th August 2012, 10.30-12.15
NSS volunteers were introduced to the Community by a short visit and meet the people living there. They first visited the school where prior NSS volunteers’ work has resulted in Jagriti, an NGO taking adopting school children’s fees and lunch. Then they went door to door meeting senior citizens of the basti and familiarizing themselves to take up future projects with the basti women and children. Ms Chanda Asani and Ms Gurupurnima Kaushik accompanied the volunteers. For some volunteers it was a first exposure of a basti and they were warmed with the welcome given by basti people and looking forward to work with them. A few basti children were curious to see new faces and inquired if they too will teach them like earlier ‘didis’.
Training of Group Leaders

A Training for the selected 40 group leaders was organized on 18th August, 2012. The volunteers were teamed up in pairs of two, to conduct community work in the session 2012-13. First of all an Ice-breaking exercise was conducted in which the volunteers were divided randomly in 2 groups and made to participate in an interesting activity highlighting the significance of Team work and co-operation for successful conduction of community work. The trainer was Mr. Imaya Velan Barnes, a senior trainer with Genpact, who emphasized the significance of small endeavours the sensitivity towards all members of the group, focusing on values like forbearances, tolerance, patience, encouragement in the positive attitude to achieve big results. He inspired the young members to be leaders and not bosses to strive the groups towards the goal. He gave tips to the Group Leaders for developing a confidence personality capable of leading the group.
The Training was followed the screening of a documentary ’Freedom is not Free’ by Shiv Khera, which focuses on the issue of corruption and appeals to the citizen of India to join hands and stand up against corruption. This was quite a realistic documentary and was appreciated by all volunteers. It appealed to the masses to stand up for their problems and injustice and not merely complain. To be a proud Indian, we must make India free from corruption and strive towards making our motherland a heaven.
Art of Living

The NSS Units of the IIS University organized a talk on Personality Development through The Art of Living by Mr. Nitin Pal Singh and his team members. Mr Singh threw light on the advantages of a pleasant personality which is possible by controlling negative emotions and by being positive all the time. A short documentary on The Art of Living showcasing youth satsang with enticing vocal and instrumental music was screened for the volunteers. Mr. Singh also emphasized the significance of a cheerful confident personality, which leads to a win win situation in life.
Guest Lecture Eye Care

Guest Speaker: Dr Nabanita Barua
The camp was inaugurated with a lecture on Eye Care by Dr. Nabanita Barua, who talked about physiology, functioning and deformities of Eyes. She threw light on the causes and the remedies of weakness of eye sight and also talked about the dietary intake to have a sound eyesight, without any use of medicines. At the end of her Power Point Presentation, she answered the queries of the students related to the eye problems.
Eye Check-up Camp
23rd – 24th August 2012 11.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m.
The NSS Units of The IIS University organized a two-day Eye Check-up camp in the college campus. The camp was attended by students and staff of IIS University including B.Ed. faculty and students. The NSS Group Leaders and volunteers rendered their services in the successful conduction of the camp and also supported the team from Anand Eye Hospital, Jaipur.

Women’s Wellbeing Initiative – Female Reproductive Health

Guest Speaker: Dr. Neelam Bapna
A Guest lecture was organized by NSS in collaboration with Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecological Society of India (FOGSI) on Female Reproductive Health. In the programme entitled, Women’s Wellbeing Initiative, Dr. Neelam Bapna from Saket Hospital, Mansarovar delivered a comprehensive educative lecture on Reproductive Health and Hygiene for the students, which benefited them immensely. She discussed the structure of female reproductive system, menstruation, contraceptive pills, factors relating to anemia, myths and facts of gynecological issues. She answered the queries of the students related to Cervical cancer vaccine, diet for anemia, and many more.
NSS volunteers and students of Home Science gained knowledge from this interactive session, which would help them in their immediate and future life.

Independence Day Participation of NSS Volunteers

NSS volunteers, and the group leaders of the IIS University participated in the Independence Day programme organized at The IIS School grounds, Shipra Path. They enacted a street play entitled "Tamasha" and a satirical poem written by Shri Ashok Chakradhar focusing on communal harmony.The following are the names of the participants: Bhoomika Batra, Hiteshi Bhatia, Vidhai Ranawat, Kanupriya Naagar, Pawan Rathore, Megha Chaudhari, Jeevanshu Jain and Nandita Gupta.
A group song was also presented by the nightingales of the University.
Lecture and Quiz on Road Safety

A Lecture and Quiz on Road Safety by Mr. Veerendra Singh Rathore , motor vehicle inspector, RTO, Udaipur was held for the NSS students as a part of the Sadak Suraksha Saptah organized by the Department of Transport , Government of Rajasthan. Mr. Rathore focused on the 6 E of safe driving on the road, amongst other things, through a power point presentation.This was followed by a quiz on road safety. on the basis of which, 6 students were short listed.

Voluntary Community Work

Discussion on Volunteering for community work by Ms Esha Atolia, a student from the US. She discussed the project on Volunteering, which she plans to implement in the IIS school with the help of group leaders of NSS for initiating the youth towards community work . She discussed the strategy for generating this spirit among the school students by taking up one day cleanliness tasks in public places like schools, public parks, hospitals, roads etc. with the help of NGOs that are working in this sector.
Fly Peace Kite Campaign

In order to promote peace and fraternity among the people and to work for world peace and harmony, a Fly Peace Kite Campaign was taken up in joint collaboration with Pravah, an NGO. The volunteers of Pravah also staged a Nukkad Natak.
Visit to NGO

A screening of documentaries on Right to Information, Environment, and Energy was taken up on 7th January, 2012 for the NSS volunteers of the college .This screening was followed by group discussion focusing on the need to conserve natural resources and having a clean and pollution free environment.
NSS Special Camp Inauguration
The NSS Special Camp was held for 6 days from December 10-16th 2011. It was inaugurated by chief guest, Dr.Ashok Kewalia (Assistant Programme Advisor,NSS Regional Centre, Government of India) and guest of honour, Dr. Archana Sharma, spokesperson of Rajasthan Congress. The other guests on this occasion were Ms. Chitra Gupta, Mr. S.P.Bhatnagar, Youth Officer,NSS Regional Centre. Vice Chancellor of The IIS University, Dr. Ashok Gupta welcomed the distinguished guests.
A Lecture and handicraft workshop were held on Day one of the camp. On day to a visit to an Ashram, and two sessions on dramatics were held. Day three started wit Yoga and aerobics followed by, an awareness lecture on breast cancer, a Red Cross training session by Mr. Radhey Shyam Sharma, a trainer from St John Ambulance Association, Jaipur. This session continued over five days from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m. Day 4 witnessed a lecture each on HIV AIDS as well as Nukkad Natak by eminent personalities. On day five, representives from the NGO, " People for People", gave a motivational lecture about reforming weaker sections of society.This was the followed by a session on Self Management by Dr. Vikas Nautiyal from the Police Academy, Jaipur. Day 6 began with a Chinese meditation session. The Valedictory session started with showcasing various projects on PPT. Youth Officer - Mr. S P Bhatnagar, Department of Youth Affairs, Govt. of India, and Shri Satyadeo Bareth, Director, Development Resource Centre, Jaipur, were Chief Guests for the closing session of the NSS Special camp.
World AIDS Day- Slogan writing

Indian Youth Delegation to China

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, India, organized a visit of the Indian Youth Delegation to China from 20th -30th September, 2011 in which 500 youth delegates from various organisations, got an opportunity to represent their country in diverse fields. Ms. Nandita Gupta , a student of The IIS University, Jaipur was nominated by the university and was selected by the NSS Regional Centre, Jaipur among the five volunteers from the state of Rajasthan, to join the Indian Youth Delegation to China from 20th -30th September, 2011.
