Internal Complaints Committee, IIS (Deemed to be University) organized an insightful session on Domestic Violence Act, 2005 on 25th November, 2024. The session aimed to create awareness about the legal framework, rights, and protections available to women under this landmark legislation. Objectives of the Session

The primary objectives of the lecture were to provide a comprehensive understanding of the Domestic Violence Act, 2005, including its provisions and significance in safeguarding women's rights, to discuss the broad scope of domestic violence, covering various forms of abuse such as physical, emotional, and economic, while also emphasizing the legal remedies and protections available to victims.

Summary

On 25th November 2024, the University hosted an insightful and thought-provoking guest lecture on the topic of domestic violence. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Sharad Rathore. This event was organized as part of the University’s ongoing efforts to create awareness and foster discussions on eliminating gender based violence.

Dr. Sharad Rathore began the lecture by contextualizing the need for the Domestic Violence Act, 2005 by highlighting its evolution and significance in safeguarding women's rights in India. He elaborated on the broad definition of domestic violence, encompassing physical, mental, emotional, verbal, sexual, and economic abuse. Emphasis was placed on the rights of women under the Act, including the right to reside in a shared household and seek protection, residence orders, and monetary relief. Dr. Rathore also detailed the procedural aspects of filing a complaint, outlining the roles of Protection Officers, police, and the judiciary in addressing cases. Additionally, he underscored the importance of NGOs, counseling centers, and helplines in providing comprehensive support to victims. The lecture concluded with a discussion on the challenges in implementing the Act and the need to address societal attitudes towards domestic violence.

Following the lecture, an interactive session was held where students engaged in a dynamic discussion with Dr. Jain. Questions related to the enforcement of the Act, the role of family courts, and measures to prevent domestic violence were addressed thoughtfully.
