Objective of the workshop:

  • To Identify and understand the craft techniques of Block Printing.
  • To create awareness about different printed textiles of India.  
  • To develop products through innovative techniques learnt during the workshop.

Summary/Description:

The Fashion Design & Textiles Guild committee of the IIS (deemed to be University), had organized a demonstration on “Block Printing” on 11th September, 2023. Dr. Sunetra Datt , Sr. Asst. professor was the resource person for the demonstration. The activity was open to all students of the University.

Block printing is a printing technique that uses a solid material to transfer ink into fabric. The block printing process involves engraving a design on the material, known as the block, inking the design, and then using the block as a stamp on the fabric.

The resource person started with an introduction and demonstrated the process of Block Printing using different colors in pigment dye on various fabrics like cotton, silk and khadi.  

Students showed inclination towards the workshop and made colorful prints on the paper and later made Cushion Covers and Stoles using Block printing.

This activity helped not only to enhance the creativity but also the presentation skills The workshop was very fruitful for the students and the students learnt the techniques enthusiastically. This workshop helped them to create their own products in a short span of time.
