On the day of Celebration of National Handloom day the Fashion & Textile Guild committee was organized a guild workshop on 07/08/2019. This day was organized in memory of the ‘Swadeshi Movement’.

The trend continued for centuries until industrialization and demand for cheap mass-produced goods meant weaving skills were almost lost until a timely revival in ethnic and ethical products.

Among the hundreds of small scale and cottage arts and crafts that have survived in the present day India, the handloom weaving is perhaps the most important and occupies a proud place. The awareness of our handloom in the country helps in the employment of our great artisans and weavers who got lost in the progress of the fashion industry in the past decade with the growth of mass production brands.

The main objective behind this workshop was to provide the awareness and exposure to students about the technical aspect of making the fabric on loom . This workshop was suitable for beginners and intermediary students or those who need a strong foundation on the basics of how to weave using a handloom. The partcipating students were divided in six groups. Students have learn winding the warps, dressing a loom and threading in heddles and reeds and tying the warp on loom and prepared the fabric samples under the  guidance of  Ms.Amandeep Kaur Assistant Professor of IIS (deemed to be University ), Resourse Person of the workshop.

Students have learn and practice different types of weaves on table loom. This workshop provide the full understanding of the working and logistics of pre-loom work and weaving.

At the end of this workshop students also realized that weaving is much easier rather than setting up the yarn on the loom before weaving and it takes patience to arrange all the threads.

Twelve students participated in the workshop. Students from the Semester I and Semester III of Home Science, GPEM and Fashion department participated with utmost enthusiasm and excitement in the workshop. The workshop was fruitful to the students and they gained knowledge on weaving.
