LEGAL AWARENESS CAMP

A one day Legal awareness camp was organized by the Centre for Women’s Studies and Department of Sociology in collaboration with Rajasthan State Commission for Women on 17 August, 2016. The programme started with Vandana followed by  Lamp lighting. The Chief Guest of the programme was  Smt.Suman Sharma, Chairperson, RSCW. The  Keynote Speaker, was Dr. Pramila Sanjay. Dr. Ashok Gupta, Vice Chancellor, The IIS University, presided over the function.  Dr. Raakhi Gupta, Registrar, and Prof N K Jain, Dean, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences. Dr. Ashok Gupta welcomed the guests with flowers.
Dr. Ashok Gupta during his the welcome note shared the journey of ICG becoming Deemed University with 5000 students from all over the country. He said that the various departments from UG to PhD encouraged students not just to become good home makers but to become IAS and army officers, excel in multinationals, sports and literature. They learnt here Indian values. The only drawback was that the University was being run in a college campus. He requested the Chairperson RSCW to consider this to be able to achieve the dreams of education. He again welcomed all to this programme.
Smt. Suman Sharma started her inaugural speech with gratefulness to be able to speak in a University for first time. She started her term in RSCW with breaking some myths. She studying the dying cases in her files and realized it is not enough to teach girls to break silence. Girls have started going to police station but are unaware of their constitutional rights and the Sections in which they have to report. Because of that ignorance she decided to create awareness among women by organizing legal awareness camps. She expressed that although law is very boring but to create awareness she had to study it. She stressed that girls should know the importance of various sections of 354 of IPC.  She shared a booklet that had all women related laws. She informed that the English version of the booklet  is under publication.
Dr. Pramila Sanjay, Focal person of UNGCNI, made a lively presentation with the help of PPT about some aspects of the laws and constitutional rights related to women. She emphasized that girls should be aware of good touch and bad touch and should not feel guilty or afraid. They should ensure that FIR should be on green paper, they should read the signed FIR, edit it if required, take a photo immediately and get it printed. There is FIR also for against those not willing to take FIR.

The students of UG and PG participated enthusiastically in the camp and raised several questions related to laws and exercise of their rights.
