Summary/Description:

The Fashion Design & Textiles Guild committee of the IIS (deemed to be University), had organized a demonstration on “Macramé Accessories” on 21st December, 2024. Ms. Bhawana Verma was the resource person for the demonstration. The activity was open to all students of the University.

The demonstration began with a brief introduction to the history and cultural significance of macramé. Students were then introduced to various types of square knot, Larks head knot, half hitch knot, spiral knot, double half hitch knots. The Resource Person provided step-by-step guidance to students, how to use yarns to make knots. The base for making knots were boards or wooden articles to develop different products through the knots.

The activity included hands-on practice where students created small macramé pieces such as keychains, bracelets, or mini wall hangings.

The workshop was very fruitful for the students and they learnt the techniques enthusiastically. This workshop helped them to create their own products in a short span of time.

Outcome of the workshop:

Students learned about Macramé techniques and different types of knots. Participants appreciated the practical and environmentally friendly aspects of macramé, which align with contemporary trends in slow fashion and artisanal design.
