On the occasion of National Girl Child Day, A webinar on Girl Child Education: The way forward was organized by the Centre for Women’s Studies in collaboration with Department of Sociology and Department of Journalism & Mass Communication on 24 January,2022.  The webinar was organized with the aim of enhancing the awareness of students regarding various aspects of girl child education. The resource person for the session was  Dr.Randhir Kumar Gautam, HOD, SOHSS, Raffles University, Neemarana, Chief Programme Officer, India, RAYS Global Foundation, USAknowledge. He shared his concern for the girl child, who is a victim of patriarchal culture. He stated that girl child education is a challenging task. He examined the issue of religion and patriarchy in context of girl child education. He elaborated the process of subjugation of girl child in different stages of life and stressed that this needs to be questioned. He also stated the society is insensitive towards various problems of girl child since majority of out of school children are girls. The COVID pandemic has intensified the problem of girl child education. This pandemic has resulted in complete exclusion of girl child and stressed that urgent steps are required for improving the situation.

Prof. Rajiv Gupta, Research Advisor, Department of Sociology also shared his thoughts and explained how the entire social world is divided into certain constructed myths of idealism and normative structures. The social prejudices and patriarchal structures have to be attacked if we want to improve the situation. He stressed that there is a need of organized movementsand support of civil society together with change in ideology to improve the status of girl child.   The participants raised several questions regarding their individual contribution and also the challenges related to girl child education.  This was a very informative session which raised the awareness level of participants and raised their consciousness about their contribution towards societal reforms.
