Objective of the workshop:

  • To Identify and understand the craft of Pichwai Art.
  • To explore the possibilities of fabric embellishment through various contemporary ways. 
  • To develop products through innovative techniques learnt during workshop

Summary/Description:

The Fashion Design & Textiles Guild committee of the IIS (deemed to be University), organized a workshop on “Pichwai Art” on 19th October, 2024. Ms. Raj Dholiwal, Senior Art & Craft Instructor, Pidilite, Jaipur was the resource person for the demonstration. The activity was open for all the students of the University.

The workshop began with a short brief on the origin and evolution of Pichwai painting, a centuries-old art form that originated in Nathdwara, Rajasthan.

Following the introduction, a live demonstration was provided by Ms. Raj Dholiwal, who showcased traditional techniques through brushwork. Students created their own Pichwai-inspired artwork under guided supervision.

Participants explored iconic themes of Pichwai Art i.e. Krishna and Gopis, Cows, Govardhan Puja, the Eight darshanas and more. Vibrant colours, intricate detailing and rich themes depicts the traditional Pichwai Art of painting.

             

Outcome of the workshop:

Students gained insights into the religious and historical context of Pichwai Art. They can apply this art form in various designing and product development.

Active participation and positive feedback reflected the students’ keen interest in indigenous art forms.
