A Workshop on ‘Creating Awareness on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) & IP Management’ Jointly organised by CII in collaboration with Intellectual Property Office, Department for Promotion of Industrial & Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India and IIS (Deemed to be University), Jaipur on 11 February 2020.
Inaugural Session
The inaugural program began by invoking the Almighty and lightening the lamp. Dr. Ashok Gupta, Vice Chancellor, IIS (deemed to be University) then welcomed the gathering. He emphasized on the importance of the role of IP systems in growth and enhancement of the socio-economic prosperity of a nation, in terms of strategic business planning.
The chief guest Ms. Pallavi Mishra, Senior CII Rajasthan State Council Member & Vice Chairwoman- CII Indian Women Network (IWN) Rajasthan, said that there are various IPR which are very useful for everyone who wish to get fame and earn. Now days startups and MSME people getting advantages earning IPR to compete in market with large commercial entities.
Mr. Shankar Lal Meena, Examiner of Patents & Designs, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, indicated the efficiency of Govt. IP office and advantages of express request for patent publication. The session ended with a formal vote of thanks.
Session 1: Legal Requirements and Filing Procedures for Patent Protection in India
Mr. Shankar Lal Meena, Examiner of Patents & Designs, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry shared what is the subject matter for patent, what information and document required getting patent, kinds of patent application, time-line of patenting, laws of the patent.
Session 2: Importance of Designs and Trademarks for Business Entities & IP Management
Mr. Vikas Asawat, Patent & Trademark Attorney from Kota differentiated various kinds of IPR and the competitive edge by means of IP management. He shared numerous well known examples and related IPR issues particularly on the aspects of Designs and Trademarks.
Session 3: GI and its importance
Mr. Anil Kumar Pandey, Deputy Director & Head CII-MoMSME Intellectual Property Facilitation Centre discussed about the Geographical Indications with numerous Indian GI examples. He discussed GI importance in business context and how it different from other type of IPR.
Outcome of the activity/event/seminar/workshop: The program observed to be beneficial in creating Awareness on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) & IP Management. The participants got information on importance of IPR and its various types, the way to protect it and its management.
