Objective of the workshop:

  • To create awareness about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)
  • To provide basic understanding of all IPRs
  • To provide necessary guideline and training about various procedures of patent

Inaugural Session

The following topics are covered in the aforesaid workshop:
1. Overview of IPRs and their importance (Introduction to patents, trademark, copyright, industrial design, SCLD, GI and plant variety);

2. Patents – importance, identification, filing process and case studies;

3. IPR Case Studies and Career Opportunities in IPR

4. Trademark and Geographical Indications – Importance, identification, registration process & case studies;

5. Copyrights and Industrial Design – importance, identification, registration and case studies;

 

The inaugural program began by invoking the Almighty and lightening the lamp. Dr. Ashok Gupta, Vice Chancellor, IIS (deemed to be University) then welcomed the gathering. He elaborated on the need for Intellectual Property Rights as part of the curricula for India, particularly in view of its immense significance as motivating for investment in R&D. Speaking about the workshop, Mr. Pankaj Kumar (Coordinator, IPR Cell, IIS (deemed to be University), Jaipur why patent and related IPR are important for educational institutions and institutions investing resources on scientific research and development. The session ended with a formal vote of thanks.

The first session of the Workshop was on “Overview of IPRs and their importance (Introduction to patents, trademark, copyright, industrial design, SCLD, GI and plant variety)” by Mr. Prateek Kasliwal, Founder & Proprietor, The Law Desk, Jaipur.

The second session was by Dr. Rohit Jain, Managing Director, Trade Innovation Services, Jaipur. He deliberated on the topic ‘Patents – importance, identification, filing process and case studies’ and discussed what patentable and the different kind of patent applications.

Ms. Archana Doval, Founder, Navtra IPR Services, New Delhi dealt with some IPR Case Studies in the third session. She also talked on Career Opportunities in IPR.

In the fourth session, Mr. Pankaj Kumar, Coordinator, IPR Cell, IIS (deemed to be University), Jaipur discussed the competitive edge by means of IP management. He shared numerous well known examples and related IPR issues particularly on the aspects of Trademarks and Geographical Indications.

Fifth and the last session was by Dr. Abhishek Tiwari, Deputy Director, University Law College, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. He talked on issues of Copyrights and Industrial Design. He highlighted the importance of Copyrights and Industrial Design, how to register them and what acts are not considered infringement of IPR.

Outcome of the workshop:

The participants were students and researchers from different universities were benefited by the workshop. They gained knowledge on importance of patent and other related issues.
