The IIS (deemed to be University), Jaipur organised one-day National workshop on “Open Teaching and Learning” on August 22, 2022 as part of dissemination activity of the Strategic line-3 of RISHII project. The event was attended by 324 delegates across India. As part of the pre work, all departments of the IIS University were asked to identify one specific course, each from Under-Graduate and Post- Graduate programme to incorporate international dimensions, addressing the global and professional needs, in the existing learning outcomes to make them as International Intended Learning Outcomes (IILOs), thereby moving towards internationalization of curriculum. The submissions were subsequently reviewed by the members of IISU RISHII Project team. In accordance with the recommendation of the Quality Assurance Board of the Tuning RISHII project, the University fulfilled parameters as required in the framework for designing and implementation of the workshop. The workshop was divided into four technical sessions. Each of these sessions were productive in creating pathways that can transform and empower Higher Education in India. The session on open education was instrumental in disseminating knowledge about the spatial, temporal and processual dimensions in higher education along with practices and resources in Higher Education. Thereby, further assisting the adaptation of teaching materials to international and multicultural learning environments, and enhancing the use of the digital technologies and IT resources for virtual mobility. The session on Student Learning Guide was significant in differentiating and quantifying generic and specific competencies. It aided the collaborative approach regarding – programme outcomes - learning outcomes - assessment system from the perspective of redesigning of courses. The session contributed to advance the applications of global skills and competence through higher education and creating intercultural contexts as well as foster and develop intercultural and international skills. The next session highlighted the importance of Active Learning in Classroom. Discussing the various practices that promote active learning in classroom, identifying learner engagement methods. Creating learning environment is essential to achieve the learning outcomes. The workshop has aided the university in creating intercultural contexts as well as foster and develop intercultural and international skills through academic staff. The university actively fosters active student participation during the classes and interaction among students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds and encouraging students to participate in international mobility programmes and internships.
The workshop was able to garner overwhelming participation across all stakeholders present from different institutions and departments. The workshop particularly provided an insight into designing student learning guides and active learning strategies to achieve the IILOs. The workshop at department/institutional/regional level was able to extend the agenda of internationalisation and achieve the goals of Tuning RISHII Strategic Line-3. In addition, the workshop has been able to make foundation for the designing and implementation of the SL 4 workshop aiming towards assessment strategies and practices that will ensure successful implementation of an internationalised curriculum keeping the essence learning in quality of Internationalisation of Curriculum.
