Strategic Line - V Dissemination Activity : Global/Glocal Pedagogies: An Approach

A national webinar on “Global/Glocal Pedagogies: An Approach” was organised on December 3, 2023 by IIS (deemed to be University), Jaipur.  The webinar received encouraging response from all over the country and witnessed the presence of 222 delegates from different states, namely Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Tamil Nadu and also Riyadh.

The event was moderated by Prof. Rimika Singhvi, Director, School of Humanities, IIS (Deemed to be University), Jaipur. The webinar commenced with invocation ceremony for divine blessings. Dr. Ashok Gupta, Chancellor, IIS (deemed to be University), delivered the welcome address. He extended a warm welcome to Dr. Asier Altuna Garcia De Salzar, Associate Professor, Department of Social and Human Sciences, University of Deusto, Bilbao, Spain, Resource person for the session, and the participants. He stated that Indian Education System is undergoing transformation which means establishing new academic standards and implementing new strategies to bring our students at par with the global standards. Incorporation of Global Pedagogy will help the students in becoming active members of the global community. Additionally, alignment between global standards and local content is vital for preserving the uniqueness of Indian culture. Balancing the preservation of local knowledge and integration of global perspectives is a challenge which can be addressed through Glocal Pedagogy. He expressed hope that this webinar will

illuminate the pathway for internationalization of curriculum and inspire the stakeholders to design and adopt pedagogical frameworks according to global and local needs.

Dr. Raakhi Gupta, Tuning RISHII Project Co-ordinator and Rector & Registrar, IIS(deemed to be University), Jaipur also greeted the resource person and the participants. She gave a brief overview of the RISHII project and highlighted that since the inception of this project in 2020, IIS University has organized a number of dissemination activities to share the valuable learnings gained through the project. Almost 1000 faculty members and students have been trained through 6 major workshops and about 12 in-house training programmes. She acknowledged the contribution of RISHII project in streamlining the internationalization efforts of IIS University. She thanked the Hon’ble Chancellor for his unstinted support and guidance all through the project. She acknowledged and appreciated Dr. Asier for his prompt  response and guidance . She also thanked Ivan, Paula and Sara from University of Deusto, Bilbao, Spain for their support. This brief overview was further supplemented by a documentary explaining the gaps of Indian education system and significance of RISHII project for Indian universities. This was followed by expert talk by Dr. Asier on Global and Glocal Pedagogies. He appreciated the work done by IIS University under the aegis of RISHII Project. He stated that teaching –learning activities should be student centred. We should use innovative and inclusive pedagogy. The pedagogy should be empowering, transformative, socially just, sustainable and creative. The aspects to bear in mind within the context of global pedagogy are cultural identity, globalization, intercultural communication, hidden curriculum, ethnocentrism and ethno relativism. He stressed that local concerns and settings should also be taken into consideration. He also discussed about signature pedagogy which includes tasks closely connected to work. He suggested that active learning strategies like experiential learning, problem-based learning, learning by doing and real-world experiences should be a part of our pedagogical practices. The universities should extend learning to society and foster sustainable competencies among students. The participants raised questions related to introduction of global component in teaching practices and actively participated in the webinar. This was followed by experience sharing by Prof. Ila Joshi, Director, School of Home Science. She expressed that RISHII project has significantly contributed in the integration of open education practices in the pedagogical model. RISHII project has been enriching experience for all of us. The webinar concluded with filling up of webinar assessment forms.
