Summary/Description:

The Department of Fashion & Textiles conducted a Fashion Design Guild activity for all students on draping “TWO POINT TWENTY FIVE YARDS PLUS” on 05.06.2021 at online platform. The welcome speech was given by one of the students of 4th semester Ms. Sumedha Agarwal.

The demonstration was given by Dr. Neelam Sharma, an expert in Fashion Designing and garment construction and is currently an Assistant Professor at NIIFD, Jaipur. She started the demonstration with the brief introduction of draping.

Draping is an art which is an important form of design. When the structure is draped with a garment it should express fluidity, fall and fold. Dupattas is an essential part of Indian attire and they add elegance and grace to Indian outfits. Dupatta is easily alterable; the fall of the drape will depend on the fabric and will surely be beautiful each time. But Dupattas can be worn in different styles for a creative look. There is so much you can do with just one dupatta.

Dr. Neelam Sharma started her presentation with western styles of draping with duppata or stola. She demonstrated draping styles though self-made videos where the dupatta or stole could be draped in a new version to give an indo western look. You can pair it up with jeans, jegging, trouser, shorts and skirt. You can tie your dupatta in different stylish ways with the help of simple materials like belt and few safety pins and to change your everyday look.

After the end of the demonstration students also drape the duppata on themselves in different styles.

Outcome of the Guest lecture

The main objective behind this demonstration was to provide an exposure to express design ideas through draping, able to translate a design into a finished garment and to convert flat fabric into a garment with stylized way.
