Women’s Cell of Centre for Women Studies, in collaboration with Department of Journalism and Mass Communication and Department of Sociology, IIS (deemed to be University) organised an online interactive session on the topic of ‘Women in Media’ on Saturday, August 29th, 2020. The guest speaker for the session was Dr. Ritu Dutta, Assistant Editor, Special Supplements and Features, Response Editorial, The Times of India, Jaipur. Dr. Dutta has an experience of more than two decades with The Times of India and also a PhD in Biotechnology. Ms. Babita Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication presented the welcome note.
Dr. Dutta talked about how women in media can make a difference. She commenced her address by focusing on how being a female; we all must support other women to grow in any possible way. She shared one must be sensitive towards women centric issues, as a women you can better report and present the issue with a perspective. She also insisted that being sensitive does not imply that one needs to portray unnecessary feminism always. She also shared with the students that it is also important to refine your communication skills before you actually enter into the field. Good communication skills always help in presenting facts without any bias. In the end, Dr. Ruchi Goswami, Associate Professor, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication moderated various questions to Dr. Dutta asked by the audience and presented the vote of thanks.
